A big little life : a memoir to a joyful dog
Title: A big little life : a memoir to a joyful dog
Author: Dean Koontz
Publisher: New York : Hyperion, 2009
A tribute to his late golden retriever, Dean Koontz's non-fiction debut is an engaging and humorous portrait of his remarkable dog. Dean and his wife adopt a 3 year old therapy dog who has retired from service due to an injury. Extremely well trained with impeccable manners and highly intelligent, Trixie defies the conventional wisdom from animal behaviourists who say that dogs cant express emotion or empathy or remember things like humans can. Dean writes "she was something more than a dog....this spirit was a wonder and a revelation." She seems to be nothing short of a wonder dog. She provides Dean with the impetus to challenge himself in his writing and here he makes what seems preposterous believable. A dog memoir with a bit of gravitas and literary merit. Who would believe?
